The square is free to enter and the Royal Guard is there at all times. The museum occupies Christian VIII’s Palace and opens up the private apartments of several monarchs. The entrance is through the door closest to Frederiksgade.
Our tipThe changing of the guard takes place every day at Amalienborg. When the King is in residence, the guard leaves the Gothersgade barracks at 11:27, goes via the Round Tower and Kongens Nytorv, then reaches the square just before noon, with music at around 12:00. If he is staying elsewhere, a smaller guard remains in place: the parade and music are not guaranteed.
Museum opening hours. The square remains freely accessible.
